When I was 12 years old I went up to Superior for a
baseball state tournament. Me, being the little fisherman I was,
decided
to bring my pole and fish the lake right by our hotel. So I strolled
down the hill from my hotel in the morning and all of my buddies went
mini-putting on barkers island while I went down to the charter dock
to go
fishing. I was equipped with my Shakespeare bass rod and six
pound test
line and no leader. So I tied on one of my bass spinnerbaits and put
a
twister tail on the end for some action. So I casted out a few times
with no luck. I saw a drop-off right where the boat comes in, so I
casted
along it. As soon as my bait hit the water, I had a giant following it.
I waited for the monster to strike, waiting for the instant he hit so I
could yank my pole back. When i set the hook i knew i was in for a
fight. This fish took me up and down this charter dock for about
15-25 min.
When the fish finally came to the surface I yelled musky! My buddy
who I was fishing with jumped into knee-deep water and grabbed
the giant between his knees and by the gills and dragged him up on
shore. I had caught a 48" 25lbs musky out of lake superior. I know
this
isn't a huge musky, but for me when i was 12 it was the biggest fish
ever.
